Halloween is finally here! Did you know this year not only is there a full moon on Halloween there is going to a full “blue moon” shining down tonight? According to Live Science, this is the first time since 1944 that Halloween has lined up with a blue moon. While our Halloween plans may be looking a little bit different than the years past, we’ve kept our spirits in this house high. May the Blue Moon bring some Halloween magic to all of us tonight! Whether your plans tonight involve trick or treating and tucking it at home, the time has come! This year I have been thoroughly enjoying educating Arya on the Halloween Classics. I know I’m going to get a lot of slack for the title of this post and for my opinion on this subject but I don’t mind. Don’t get me wrong, Hocus Pocus is a great film. I love it. There is not a Halloween that goes by that I don’t watch it. However, there are a few films from my childhood that actually stick out more and in my humble opinion are overlooked in our rush to watch Hocus Pocus again.
Here is my short and sweet list of Halloween Classics you won’t want to miss this spooky season:
Casper Meets Wendy

There are few celebs I love as much as Hillary Duff. She was the perfect strong, smart, sassy and assertive Wendy. Wendy was my absolute idol in this movie, never backing down in the face of danger or bullies. A perfect mix of sugar and spice.
“I didn’t know witches were so…. cute.”
Double, Double Toil and Trouble

Talk about a double duo! This spooky Halloween film was another favorite my whole childhood. It’s actually a little bit spookier than you would expect for young Mary Kate and Ashley. They are flawless in the film, both funny and endearing. Their greedy and totally creepy Aunt Agatha is the perfect villain; the story line, and supporting characters quickly captures your attention and hooks you in. It is an absolute must-see every year!
“Do you drink a lot of coffee? You might want to switch to decaf.”
Halloweentown + Halloweentown II Kalabars Revenge

A coming of age story full of magic, spooky creatures, and family dysfunction. A family of Cromwell witches defeat a narcissistic, power hungry warlock who happens to be moms ex boyfriend? Too juicy! Count me in!
“Magic is really very simple, all you’ve got to do is want something and then let yourself have it.”
Twitches + Twitches Two

Another double duo that can never do wrong! Two twin sisters separated at birth (No, this isn’t Sister, Sister I swear) only to find each other right before their birthday unexpectedly! Alex and Camryn couldn’t be more different but they work together and unravel the truth of their past. It’s a Disney Channel movie so expect some wholesome corny moments.
“The opposite of dark isn’t light. It’s love.”
The Addams Family + Addams Family Values

A true classic. The epitome of spooky and fun. Not to mention the total queen and matriarch, Morticia. Need I say more? Snap, Snap.
“Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider, is chaos for the fly.”
There you have it! These movies are underrated and overlooked.
All wholesome family Halloween movies and perfect for that spooky family movie night!
Plus, I’ve got a sweet spot for a strong female lead. Did you notice?
What classic Halloween movies do you and your family watch every year?
